KURNOOL: Work is in full swing on the Telugu University campus at Srisailam for setting up the Post-graduate Information Technology Academy. According to Dean of Telugu University Peetham P. Channa Reddy, the academy would start MS (IT) course on October 15, aiming to provide world-class educationto rural students. The academy called for applications from students for the three-year MS (IT) course before September 27. The main eligibility criterion is that the student with any graduate degree should have studied school and college in rural areas, not above mandal headquarters. The academy itself would mobilise an education loan of Rs. 2 lakhs for every student, which can be repaid after securing a job. In the first year of the course, which is called pre-MS (IT), the students would be taught basic communication skills in English and other relevant subjects, before introducing information technology. Mr. Reddy told The Hindu that the academy would cost Rs. 41 lakhs, which includes Rs. 16 lakhs for laying 2 MBPS internet leased line and Rs. 25 lakhs for other infrastructure. The existing buildings of the Telugu University would be used for the academy. At present, the Telugu University was running the School of History, Culture and Archaeology to offer M. Phil and Ph. D degrees.
