Letters to the Editor
This refers to the editorial "A controversy defused" (Sept. 7). The resignation of Kerala Public Works Minister P.J. Joseph over the alleged sexual harassment of a co-passenger on a flight after a quick preliminary investigation sets an ethical precedent. The Left Democratic Front Government should be commended for its swift action, which is unlike the dithering attitude of governments that hide behind eternal commissions of inquiry.
Kasim Sait,
I agree that Mr. Joseph's continuance in office would have diverted attention from key issues of governance. The fact that the investigating officer neither indicted nor exonerated the Minister did not make him cling to power. This in itself is exemplary. Mr. Joseph has enjoyed an impeccable reputation in public life so far. Only a thorough enquiry can establish the facts of the case and help determine whether there was any intentional act of commission.
Wg. Cdr. (retd.) Job Mathew,
