  • Kannada Bhavans to be built in border districts
  • Rural theatres to come up in eight districts

BANGALORE: Suvarna Samskriti Samuchayas (golden jubilee cultural complexes) are being constructed in Gulbarga, Dharwad and Shimoga as part of the Suvarna Karnataka celebrations.

The Government has decided to build another complex at Bangalore Kalagrama (adjacent to the Bangalore University campus) soon after the tender process is completed. Tenders were invited twice for the construction of the Rs. 3.85-crore complex, for which Chief Minster H.D. Kumaraswamy laid the foundation stone on June 15, but the response was poor.

The estimated cost of the complexes coming up in Gulbarga, Dharwad and Shimoga is Rs. 1.39 crore, Rs. 1.27 crore and Rs. 3 crore respectively. The Government has already released Rs. 75 lakh, Rs. 85 lakh and Rs. 50 lakh respectively.

There is also a plan to build two medium-sized cultural complexes at Alevur village near Udupi and Karnangeri village near Madikeri at an estimated cost of Rs. 1.02 crore and Rs. 1.07 crore respectively.

    Kannada Bhavans

In response to the aspirations of the people in the State's border areas, the Government will build Kannada Bhavans in Belgaum, Bijapur, Chamarajanagar, Kolar and Dakshina Kannada districts. The aim is to promote cultural groups and activities in these districts. It has released Rs. 1 crore each for the construction of the bhavans.

In an effort to give a fillip to theatre activities, both amateur and professional, and commemorate the golden jubilee of the formation of the State, the Government will build theatres at Bhalki in Bidar district, Indi in Bijapur district, Athani in Belgaum district, Manvi in Raichur district, Kushtagi in Koppal district, Gadag, Sandur in Bellary district and Ilkal in Bagalkot district. The overall cost of construction is estimated at Rs. 1.75 crore, according to sources in the Karnataka Nataka Academy.
