Rupee closes lower
MUMBAI:
The rupee on Friday closed slightly lower against the U.S. currency following fresh dollar demand by banks amid firm dollar overseas.
In quiet trading at the interbank foreign exchange market, the Indian unit resumed higher at 46.14/16 a dollar against Thursday's close of 46.19/20. Thereafter, it moved widely in a range of 46.1300 and 46.2400, before closing at 46.2250/2350.
The Reserve Bank of India fixed the reference rate for the U.S. currency at Rs. 46.20 and for the single European unit at Rs. 58.72.
