KOLLAM: Koottikada area of Mayyanad observed a dawn to dusk hartal on Friday in protest against the attack there on Thursday at 9 p.m. by a 30-member gang. The hartal was total and no vehicles plied the area. Shop owners organised a dharna at the Koottikada junction with black bands tied across their mouth. A police posse maintained vigil. No untoward incidents were reported. Shops and shop owners were the main targets of the attack. Passers by were also beaten up. The four injured, who were admitted to the District Hospital here, are reported to be recovering. Though the gang members wore only black headbands and did not cover their faces, none of the victims were able to identify the assailants.
