News Analysis
The sentence in "VRS not a right: Supreme Court" (September 7, 2006) was: "In the instant case, T.S.N. Raju and R. Rama Rao, two employees of the Visakhapatnam Port Trust (VPT), rejected the request of two employees who sought retirement under the VRS." The sentence should been: "In the instant case, the Visakhapatnam Port Trust (VPT), rejected the request of two employees, T.S.N. Raju and R. Rama Rao, who sought retirement under the VRS." A reader points out that in the report on World Cup hockey, "India falls to last minute goal" ("Sport", September 7, 2006), it was stated that New Zealand defeated Argentina 3-0. The Results column said the score was 2-0. The Sports Desk clarifies that the scoreline in the text is right. In "States asked to set up rights commissions" (September 2, 2006), it was stated that 16 States have a human rights commission (HRC) and that as many 11 States do not have HRCs. A reader said India has 28 States. Vinay Kumar clarifies that Karnataka, the "missing State", is in the process of constituting the State Human Rights Commission.
