Madurai: Loyola College (Chennai) retained the Kamarajar memorial trophy for the fourth successive year, defeating Annamalai University (Chidambaram) 25-19, 25-21, 25-17 for its third win in the semifinal round robin league in the State-level invitation volleyball tournament at Nagamalai near here on Thursday. Annamalai University finished runner-up, losing only to Loyola College. In the other match, YMCA College (Chennai) beat Sethu Institute of Technology (Kariapatti) 25-19, 25-23, 25-17 for its only win to finish third.
ANJAC triumphs
Ayya Nadar Janaki Ammal College (Sivakasi) beat Madurai Kamaraj University College (Madurai) 26-12 for the title in the M.K. University `A' zone inter-collegiate kho-kho tournament at the American College ground here on Friday. Earlier, Madura College emerged B zone winner defeating MKU College (Andipatti) 20-13 in the final. In the semifinals, Madura College beat Arulmigu Palaniandavar Arts College (Palani) 15-8 and MKU College beat Sourashtra College 18-8. Other results: Semifinals: MKU College bt Yadava College 17-15; ANJA College (Sivakasi) bt American College 19-12. Quarterfinals: ANJA, Sivakasi bt PT College (Madurai) 12-1; Yadava bt. MSSWakfboard College 11-7; American bt MAVMM Ayra Vysya College 20-9; MKU College bt Saraswathy Narayanan College 16-13.
LDC regains title
Lady Doak College regained the Rajamannar memorial trophy, defeating Sri Meenakshi Government College for women 2-0 in the final of the Madurai Kamaraj University inter-collegiate women's hockey tournament at the University ground on Friday. Linda Rajakumari and Uma Maheswari scored.
MKU in semifinals
MKU College (Madurai) beat Madurai Institute of Social Science by two wickets and entered the semifinals of the Madura Kamaraj University `A' zone inter-collegiate cricket tournament at the Madura College ground on Friday. The scores (quarterfinals): Madurai Institute of Social Science 104 for eight in 20 overs lost to MKU College 105 for eight in 17.3 overs (Thangabalan 45 not out). SRNM College, Sattur 96 in 20 overs bt MSSWB College 92 in 17.1 overs. American College 81 in 18 overs lost to Thiagarajar College 83 for eight in 18 overs (Gokul four for 10). Kaliswari College, Sivakasi 104 for seven in 20 overs lost to MAVMM Ayra Vysya College 105 for seven in 20 overs (Poun Thirupathy 45).
Chennai retains title
Chennai Division retained the title, defeating Trichy 31-22 in the final of the 17th inter-divisional Railway Protection Force (RPF) kabaddi tournament at the Madurai Railway Stadium on Friday. Earlier, Chennai beat Madurai 49-13 for an all-win record and Trichy beat ICF 46-34 for its second win in the four-team league to qualify for the final.
Inter-district tournament
Fourteen Colleges are participating in the ICL inter-district college trophy cricket tournament, organised by Tirunelveli District Cricket Association in association with India cements, at Sankarnagar, Tirunelveli from September 11 to 14.
Karuppanan shines
P. Karuppanan of Government HSS, Alanganallur, and P. Donaldo of SBOA Matriculation HSS, Nagamalai won four golds each in the U-19 and U-14 sections of the Madurai South Educational District Schools Athletics meet organised by Dolphin Matriculation HSS at the Madurai Police Centenary Stadium here on Thursday.
