`Crorepati' constable held

HYDERABAD: Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials on Friday arrested a head constable of Kathalapur police station in Karimnagar district B. Mohan Reddy on the charge of possessing assets worth over Rs. 2.28 crores that were disproportionate to his sources of income.

Simultaneous searches at his house and those of his friends and relatives unearthed the huge wealth amassed by the constable, a press release said. The properties included 19 plots -- 18 in and around Karimnagar and one at Siddipet -- four houses in Karimnagar, 23.5 acres of agricultural land at Karimnagar, documents pertaining to mortgage of property worth Rs. 42.2 lakhs, a car, Rs. 60,000 and 25 tolas of gold. He would be produced before a special court at Hyderabad.

Dismissed

Meanwhile, Nizamabad SP Mahesh Chandra Laddha on Friday dismissed two civil constables E. Moses and V. Yellaiah from service for cheating one Toodam Lingaiah of Velpur by offering counterfeit money for original currency in February 1995.
