Order on Maudany's bail plea on September 12

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: The Madras High Court is to pass orders on a bail petition of the People's Democratic Party leader, Abdul Nasir Maudany, on September 12. Justice M. Thanikachalam reserved his orders on Friday.

Senior counsel N. Natarajan, pointing out that Mr. Maudany was in jail for eight years and five months, argued that it was a clear violation of the Fundamental Rights.

The petitioner was seeking only an interim bail as he needed to replace his artificial limbs at a Government Hospital, he submitted.

R. Viduthalai, Advocate-General, however, said the Government was ready to requisition any treatment from any institution, but the treatment must be done only within the jail premises. He said Mr. Maudany did not cooperate with doctors who had visited him on September 4 and 5.

Mr. Justice Thanikachalam said he would pass orders on the matter on September 12.
