Jaunpur: A local BSP leader and district panchayat member was shot dead by two armed assailants in Kerakat Kotwali area here on Friday. According to police, Krishnakant alias Pappu Maurya (28) was sitting in a girls inter college -- founded by his father -- at Devkali market this afternoon. Around 2 p.m., the two miscreants arrived at the spot and shot him point blank. A grievously wounded Pappu was rushed to the district hospital, where he was declared dead. Pappu had filed his nomination for the district panchayat polls as a BSP nominee from ward number 58 under Muftiganj block. At that time, he was lodged in Ghazipur jail in connection with a Gangster Act case.
