A total of 47.21 cusecs of water has been released from the dam to Madurai city and wetting of supply wells at Peranai channel, one of the major drinking water sources for Dindigul town, at Nilakottai in Dindigul district.

Sharp showers

Theni, Bodi and Cumbum received sharp showers for more than two hours on Friday evening. Rainwater flooded Theni town and the drainage canals were overflowing. Flow in the Varaha river in Periakulam increased substantially. Though the rain will be useful to the perennial and horticulture crops, it will delay the harvest of short-term crops, including paddy in the Cumbum valley.

Rainfall recorded at various places in the district in mm: Periyar 22, Thekkadi 1, Goodalur 7 and Shanmuga River 2 mm.

Dindigul

Normal life was disrupted in Dindigul owing to heavy showers on Friday. Inflow in the major dams in Palani taluk has been increasing steadily owing to rain in the catchments and on Kodaikanal hills. The level raised marginally in Varadhamanadhi dam.
