NALGONDA: "Can we take on the corrupt system and unscrupulous politicians" was the most common question Jayaprakash Narayan, Lok Satta's founder, faced during his one-day visit to Nalgonda district on Friday. People, particularly youngsters and schoolchildren, accorded a rousing reception to the former bureaucrat, who was here to highlight the programmes of Lok Satta. He spent most of the time clearing the doubts of people and fielding questions from the media. "We know pretty well that we are going to step into political quagmire, but our main aim is to create political awareness to correct the system. We are here to make voters understand the importance of their vote," he told reporters at the Revenue Guest house. Dr. Jayaprakash Narayan revealed that a new political party from the Lok Satta movement would emerge on October 15. "By that time we will complete all the formalities like approaching the Election Commission," he said, adding that activists of the movement would personally meet one crore people "to explain about the new political culture." To another question, he said: "Regional imbalance is dangerous than religious fundamentalism. Rulers should realise that the real-estate boom is not an indicator for development. Unless and until we focus our energies on education and health, we cannot wipe out the imbalances." Later, he participated in a meeting at Charlapally, where five youngsters contested unsuccessfully in the Panchayat elections on Lok Satta's banner. Youngsters took part in the question and answer session with rapt attention. He also addressed a seminar on `Youth Role in Nation Building' before leaving for Hyderabad.
