KOCHI: A maxillofacial prosthetic clinic has been opened at the Amrita School of Dentistry. Addressing a press meet here on Thursday, Anil Mathew, head of the division, said this specialty in dentistry seeks to correct defects in the head, face or jaw resulting from tumours, cancer surgery, accidents or birth defects. He said the public was aware of artificial limbs, but had little awareness of artificial replacements of facial parts. He said there were only a few trained experts in this field. Materials needed for the process were also not available in the country.
