KOCHI: The celebrations in the city for the Sreekrishna Jayanthi on September 14 will begin with `go-puja' on Sunday. The flag will be hoisted at all 20,000 centres of Balagokulam, which will lead the State-wide programmes. Addressing a press meet here on Friday, general convener of the programmes Baburaj said `go-puja' will be held at 3,000 centres, including Guruvayur, where the ritual will be led by Anjam Krishnan Namboothiri, with 50 cows. There would be 4,000 programmes during the celebrations and 10,000 processions throughout the State, he said. Cultural programmes will include competitions for children, competition in songs of Lord Krishna and family get-togethers. Prominent persons will participate in the different programmes organised across the State during the four-day celebrations. Film director Adoor Gopalakrishnan, Travancore Devaswom Board president G. Raman Nair in Thiruvananthapuram; Poet S. Rameshan Nair, Kummanam Rajashekaran in Kottayam; C.F. Thomas, MLA, in Changanassery; Swami Chidanandapuri, Shajoon Kariyal in Kozhikode; Kaviyoor Ponnamma, Siddique, former Women's Commission chairperson, D. Sreedevi, District Collector A.P.M. Mohammed Hanish in Ernakulam; music director Jayan of the Jaya-Vijayan duo in Idukki are some of the people expected to participate in the festivities. State President of Balagokulam Harindran and district president Satheesh Kumar also spoke on the occasion.
