Vehicle set afire at Timarpur

NEW DELHI: Angry local residents set a mini-bus afire after it hit a cyclist at Timarpur in North Delhi on Friday night. While the victim was stated to be in serious condition, the driver was still at large.

According to the police, the accident took place around 10-45 p.m. when the rashly driven mini-bus hit the cyclist. He sustained severe injuries all over the body and was rushed to Trauma Centre. Meanwhile, the situation went out of control when angry local residents set the vehicle on fire.

The bus driver had vanished from the scene soon after the accident.

"A hunt has been launched for the erring driver, and also for those involved in the rioting," said a police officer.

Five held on charge of vehicle theft

NEW DELHI: Five persons have been arrested by the R. K. Puram police here on charge of vehicle theft. The police claim to have recovered a Maruti Esteem car, two other Maruti cars and five motorcycles during the operation.

According to the police, the accused, Babu, was arrested and at his instance they arrested the four others, identified as Om Prakash, Balkar, Praveen Tiwari and Jai Prakash.

During interrogation, the accused allegedly confessed to their involvement in over a dozen cases of auto-lifting.

Four alleged robbers arrested

NEW DELHI: Four alleged robbers were arrested by the Tilak Marg police on Wednesday. The police claim to have recovered a country-made firearm from them.

Those arrested have been identified as Amit, Jitendra, Suraj and Anoop Chawla. During interrogation, Amit allegedly disclosed that he was the gang leader.

At their instance, the police recovered a stolen auto-rickshaw from Mathura Road.

Lunar eclipse

NEW DELHI: The Science Popularisation Association of Communicators and Educators (SPACE) in association with the Nehru Planetarium and the Amateur Astronomer's Association organised an event at Teen Murti Bhavan here on Thursday night to observe lunar eclipse.

Students from various schools and many others watched the event.

Special video projections and telescopes were set up to view the eclipse.
