NEW DELHI: Two Indian athletes, who competed in the recent Asian junior championships and another junior athlete who was in contention for selection to the team for the same meet, have been suspended following positive tests for steroids. Mukesh Beniwal of Delhi, who finished sixth (13.17m) in the junior women's shot put event in the Asian junior championships in July, tested positive in an in-competition test at Macau. A. Amalanathan of Tamil Nadu, who fouled his first attempt and then passed the next two in the long jump qualification round to end up with a `no mark' against his name in the Asian junior meet, had raised doubts then itself. It now transpires that his urine sample provided at the Junior Federation Cup meet at Chennai in June had tested positive. He had won the gold in Chennai with 7.49 metres. Woman discus thrower Indu Bala of Haryana, who stood second at the Chennai meet (41.10m), had also turned in a positive in a test done at home. Her dope test result was available before the team left for Macau and thus she was excluded from the team. The AFI is learnt to have proceeded against Beniwal and Amalanathan and suspended both of them for two years while the formalities in Indu Bala's case are being completed. She is under provisional suspension. Special Correspondent
