Bangalore: Ten postgraduate students of dentistry and medicine of the 2005-06 course have moved the Karnataka High Court seeking a direction to the authorities to pay the full course fees. In their petitions, Dr. Manjunath B.N. and nine others said they had completed their degree course and that they were classified as belonging to category 1 comprising most backward classes. They said at present they were perusing PG courses in different disciplines. They said the Government recently agreed to pay the full course fees of PG students in dentistry and medicine belonging to the 2004-05 batch. They said a memo to this effect was also filed last week in the High Court. They said they too belonged to the same category and sought for a similar relief. Justice B.S. Patil ordered issue of notices to the State and adjourned further hearing on the case.
Undertaking
Justice B.S. Patil has adjourned hearing on a petition in which Dr. Jyoti Bala and another dental student had challenged their discharge from Oxford Dental College. In their petitions, they said they were initially not given seats though they secured good ranks in the entrance test. They had approached the High Court for relief. However, they withdrew the petitions after the college promised to give them seats. The petitioners said a few days ago they were asked not to attend the classes. They sought a direction to the college to continue with their admission to PG courses. Justice Patil adjourned further hearing on the case after counsel for the college submitted that the students would be given admission.
