Chief Minister clarifies on remark about madrasas

Special Correspondent

BANGALORE: Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy on Friday clarified that he had never said madrasas were involved in terrorist activities. "In the speech delivered at the meeting of Chief Ministers on internal security in New Delhi on September 5, I said that terrorist organisations are trying to use the madrasas. I never said that madrasas are involved in terrorist activities."

"I have great regard for the minority community. Madrasas are holy institutions. These institutions are helping the Muslim community in their education and uplift. Our Government has endeavoured to strengthen these religious institutions through additional grants in the budget, and we are committed to upholding the dignity of madrasas," he said.
