BANGALORE: The State Council of the Communist Party of India (CPI) has decided to organise a Statewide `Janajagruthi Jatha' in protest against what it terms the "corrupt and anti-people policies of the State Government." The march will begin from Gulbarga on Monday. Addressing presspersons here on Saturday, CPI State Council secretary Siddanagouda Patil said Suravaram Sudhakar Reddy, MP, would inaugurate the jatha in Gulbarga and it would reach Bangalore on September 27 (Bhagat Singh's birth anniversary). The main purpose of the march was to expose widespread corruption in government departments, the neglect of farmers, labourers and beedi workers and the Government's tardy response to the drought in the State, Dr. Patil said. The ruling Janata Dal (Secular)-Bharatiya Janata Party coalition and the Opposition Congress had failed to safeguard the interests of the people, he said and accused the three parties of indulging in corruption in the execution of development works and transfer of government officials. The basic demands of the people were being ignored, Dr. Patil alleged. The CPI would be holding a Bangalore Urban district convention at Chandapura in Anekal taluk on Sunday, he said. It will be inaugurated by M.C. Narasimhan, president of the State Committee of the All-India Trade Union Congress (AITUC). Labour Minister Iqbal Ansari; Tejaswini Sriramesh, MP; Narayanaswamy, Anekal MLA; and CPI office-bearers will participate in the convention.
