Delegation meets Deve Gowda

Special Correspondent

The team from China visited several information technology companies in Bangalore

Bangalore: Some members of the Chinese Overseas Friendship Association from Hainan Province of China called on the former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda here on Saturday. The delegation was led by Wang Shouchu and the trip was sponsored by Unity International Foundation.

Mr. Deve Gowda said it was a courtesy call. The Chinese delegation invited a team from Karnataka to visit China. The State enjoyed a good association with China in general and several of its provinces in particular, he said.

Mr. Deve Gowda was a special invitee of the Chinese Government in 2000 and spent a fortnight visiting various parts of China.

Ms. Wang described the meeting with Mr. Deve Gowda as an informal one and said they had discussed the common characteristics of Karnataka and Hainan Province. After visiting Bangalore, the delegation would be visiting Sri Lanka, she said.

Hainan Province, an island, is located in the middle of the Asia-Pacific economic rim.

Ms. Wang said the Chinese were impressed by the progress made by the State, particularly in information technology. Hainan Province was keen on mutual cooperation with Bangalore in the areas of information technology and allied services.

The delegation visited several information technology companies during its visit to Bangalore.

Later, speaking to presspersons, Mr. Deve Gowda condemned the bomb blasts at Malegaon in Maharashtra and urged the Centre to take preventive measures against terror attacks. It was unfortunate that there were certain forces that were bent on disturbing communal harmony. Both the Centre and the State governments had to take preventive measures to curb terrorism, he added.
