Government more committed to developing Telangana than TRS: PCC spokesman

  • TRS leaders are posing as `saviours' of Telangana region
  • TRS leaders told not to indulge in tall talk

KADAPA: Telangana Rashtra Samithi leader K. Chandrasekhar Rao, is native of Vizianagaram district while A. Narendra is native of Bagalkot in Karnataka, alleged PCC official spokesman N. Thulasi Reddy on Saturday.

They are posing as `saviours' of Telangana region in a bid to dupe people of the region and boost their political interests, he alleged.

Self-respect of people of Telangana was high in Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy's rule as the region was being developed rapidly, he said at a press conference here.

The Government was more committed to develop Telangana, than TRS top brass, which does not hail from the region, he alleged.

As the TRS leaders' slogan of under-development of Telangana proved a misnomer, they were speaking of self-respect and self-rule, he alleged.

    Gram swaraj

The YSR Government proposed to transfer powers to Zilla Parishads, mandal parishads, panchayats, municipal corporations and municipalities in tune with the 73rd and 74th constitutional amendments to usher in gram swaraj,, Mr. Reddy said.

Ridiculing Mr. Chandrasekhar Rao's claims that the Congress regained power with TRS support, he said the party improved its seats and votes by 14.60 per cent in Telangana since 2004 Assembly elections, whereas TRS was on the downslide and its share of votes fell by 13.90 per cent. Moreover, Congress fared well in Rayalaseema and coastal Andhra, where TRS had no role to play, he said.

Advising TRS leaders to give up their tall talk, he urged them to realise that the party lost deposit at places where it contested against candidates fielded jointly by Congress, CPI and CPI(M). Reeling out statistics, he said 59.60 per cent of the total irrigation expenditure in the State was spent in Telangana region.

Out of 73.18 lakh acres of new ayacut to be irrigated under Jalayagnam, YSR's pet project, 46.97 per cent of ayacut was in Telangana, Mr. Reddy said.

On completion of Jalayagnam project, Warangal would top the State with additional irrigation facilities for 19.11 lakh acres, followed by Karimanagar with 16.20 lakh acres and Khammam with 13.88 lakh acres, he said.

He said that the three Telangana districts would surpass Krishna, Guntur, East and West Godavari districts once jalayagnam is through. Of the assured waters, Telangana drew a share of 44.50 per cent, he said.

    Employment

In terms of employment, 48.41 per cent of the 12.28-lakh State Government employees hailed from Telangana region, he said.

Ninety five per cent of posts in IT sector went to people of Telangana and 49.70 per cent of workforce in industries was from region, he said.
