Staff Reporter

KURNOOL: The authorities of Central Power Distribution Company of Andhra Pradesh Ltd. resorted to load shedding in rural and urban areas of district to overcome the shortfall in supply on Saturday. According to officials, as against the demand of 54 lakh units, the supply was only 46 lakh units accounting for a total shortfall of 25 per cent.

Superintendent Engineer Ananta Reddy said in spite of the short supply they were taking every step to ensure seven hours supply to crops in the district. The agriculture consumption accounted for 40 per cent in the district wherein 75,000 pump sets were working.

In Kurnool city, load shedding was implemented for two hours, in small towns for four hours and in rural areas five hours. He hoped that the supply would improve once the broken-down thermal power stations were revived.

The continuous dry spell also pushed up the consumption by agriculture sector.
