LDF council's nod for Kuruvilla

Special Correspondent

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The State council of Left Democratic Front (LDF) on Saturday approved the proposal of Kerala Congress (J) to have K.U. Kuruvilla as the party's representative in the State Cabinet, in place of party chairman P.J. Joseph who resigned as the Minister for Public Works, on Monday.

Mr. Joseph had resigned as the Minister following an allegation that he had misbehaved with a woman while travelling on a flight from Chennai to Kochi on August 3.

His resignation came after an informal inquiry conducted into the alleged incident by Inspector-General of Police B. Sandhya at the Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan's instance.

Left Democratic Front convener Vaikom Viswan told presspersons that it was the prerogative of the Kerala Congress (J) to nominate the person who should represent it in the Cabinet.

He said Mr. Kuruvilla would be sworn in as the Minister for Public Works as soon as Governor R.L. Bhatia returned to the State.

The Governor is away at the moment on a visit to his home State.
