Appeal to doctors

NEW DELHI: The Federation of National Capital Region Doctors has appealed to all the doctors operating in the NCR to intensify the pulse polio programme.

Stating that doctors must make sure that all children below the age of five years are administered two drops of pulse polio, Federation president K. K. Aggarwal on Saturday said the number of polio cases had already crossed an all-time high in the past four years. "This year the number of cases has already crossed 258 as against 66 last year."

"The maximum number of polio cases has been recorded in Uttar Pradesh at 232. Though in Delhi no case has been recorded since January 2005, it is on high alert as cases have been reported in Haryana, Moradabad and Chandigarh," he added.

Mahaprajna Award

NEW DELHI: Akhil Bharatiya Terapanth Yuvak Parishad on Saturday announced that the Mahaprajna Pratibha Award for this year would be presented to Lalit Garg for excellence in the field of journalism, literature and social services.

According to a Parishad release, Mr. Garg -- who will be presented the award at Bhiwani in Haryana on September 19 -- has been a disciple of Acharya Shri Tulsi as well as Acharya Shri Mahaprajna. The award carries a cash component of Rs.1 lakh besides a certificate and a shield.

MLA to lead team

NEW DELHI: Senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader and Saket MLA Vijay Jolly is leading a five-member delegation of young political leaders from the country to the United States from Saturday to September 22.

The U.S. Government has invited the Indian delegation under the American Council of Young Political Leaders exchange programme that is celebrating its 40th anniversary.

Musical homage

NEW DELHI: Gayathri Fine Arts and Thala Bhakti, New Delhi, have organised an instrumental music ensemble to pay homage to Sangitha Kalanidhi T. K. Jayarama Iyer on his 112th birth anniversary. Some select compositions -- classical and light -- will be presented on the veena, venu, violin, synthesiser, mridangam, ghatam and kanjira.

The programme will be held at Triveni Chamber here today (Sunday) at 5 p.m. C. Mahalakshmi, Geeta Mohan, K.N. Padmanaban and others will take part in the fusion concert.

`Anchor Fest' ends

NEW DELHI: The three-day "Anchor Fest 2006" hosted by Naval Public School, Chanakyapuri, ended here on Friday.

The festival was attended by over 600 students from 22 schools who took part in a wide range of co-curricular activities. They showed interest in computers, mathematics, Hindi language and environmental issues.

At the grand finale, Blue Bells School walked away with the winners' trophy, followed by Sanskriti School.
