Bangalore: Remodelling storm water drains, improving arterial roads and executing grade separators are part of the Bangalore Mahanagara Palike's immediate plans to spruce up the city. Special Commissioner Gaurav Gupta told The Hindu on Saturday that eight detailed project reports (DPRs) focussing on storm water drains and road-related infrastructure would be submitted along with the City Development Plan (CDP) itself. The BMP hoped to get these DPRs sanctioned along with approval for the CDP, he said. More DPRs would be formulated at a later date, he said. The CDP is a "Vision Document" which gives a broad overview of the development work that would take place in the city in the JNNURM period of five years. DPRs list out the actual projects that would be taken up with the help of funds from JNNURM. In a presentation on the CDP to Mayor and corporators on Friday, Mr. Gupta said that the Government proposed to improve the facilities in the city with a budget of Rs. 22,536 crore. The broad divisions include Rs. 2,783 crore for drinking water and drainage, Rs. 800 crore for solid waste management, Rs. 7,536 crore for roads, Rs. 3,511 crore for other road development, Rs. 1,339 crore for storm water drains, Rs. 14 crore for beautification, Rs. 307 crore for other civic services and Rs. 212 crore for tourism.
