In the American National Tennis Championships at Forest Hills (New York) on September 9, K.R. Rosewall defeated L.A. Hoad for the men's title and Miss Shirley Fry beat Miss Althea Gibson in the women's final. Rosewall won 4-6, 6-2, 6-3, 6-3 and Miss Fry prevailed 6-3, 6-4.
