SURPRISE WINNER: Classmates has scored in box office
A campus film seems to be the surprise winner among the Malayalam movies released during Onam. Industry reports suggest that Classmates directed by Lal Jose is running ahead of the other flicks thanks to its excellent craft and realistic treatment of campus life. Penned by debutant James Albert, the movie has a young cast that includes Prithviraj, Indrajith, Narain, Jayasoorya and Kavya Madhavan. Alex Paul's music is a major highlight of the movie. Vayalar Saratchandravarma has penned the lyrics. Lal Jose has taken care not to infuse a modern look to the campus depicted in the movie. The film maps the vibrant campus life through the eyes of a group of friends. Distributed by Lal Release, the film is going strong at major release centres. Classmates is followed by Mohanlal's Mahasamudram. Directed by S. Janardanan, the movie opened on a good note before the festival season. Mahasamudram has evoked mixed reactions among viewers. Tamil actor Laila is paired opposite Mohanlal. The movie hit theatres at a time when Mohanlal's Keertichakra was running successfully. The fate of Mahasamudram will be decided going by the collection reports in the coming days. While Mohanlal seems to be cruising safe, Mamootty's journey is not that smooth. His Bhargavacharitham Moonamkhandam has already received flak at the box office. The Srinivasan-Mamootty combination is not working well at the box office. Despite a star cast, Bhargavacharitham fails to inspire the audience. Mamootty might have to do some serious homework before taking up such assignments in future. Dileep will have to wait for some more time to become an action hero in Mollywood. His attempt to don the role of an action hero through Shaji Kailas' The Don seems to have not worked according to the plan. Initial reports suggest that the movie fails to catch the attention of the audience. Observers say that the actor struggles to bring any life into the role of an action hero. They point out that the audience still associate the actor with characters seen in daily life. Despite a strong marketing campaign, the movie has not created any major impact at the box office.
