LUCKNOW: Activists of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) and Shiv Sena on Sunday evening ransacked the Loreto Convent School here. The police later arrested three persons. The activists broke open the gates, damaged flowerpots and smashed the glass panes of the chapel and the principal's office. Police soon arrived and chased them away. The activists were protesting against a reported session on September 6 to invoke the spirit of Jesus Christ and some students fainting on the occasion. A report published in an English daily on Sunday said Nobo Kumar Mandal of "Chandra Cult," based in Murshidabad, West Bengal, conducted the session in the presence of the Principal, Sister Monica, and around 250 students. The Catholic Diocese of Lucknow, which manages the institution, has ordered closure of all Christian schools in the city on Monday. Lucknow District Magistrate Ramendra Tripathi has ordered a probe into the reported session. A three-member enquiry committee had been asked to submit its report within three days. Talking to newspersons, Mother Superior of Loreto Convent said though it was mandatory for students to attend the morning assembly, attendance for special assembly sessions was optional. No parent had complained about his child's presence in the special assembly on September 6, she said.
