RANCHI : The United Progressive Alliance and Left parties on Sunday staged a peaceful and symbolic demonstration near the official residence of Jharkhand Assembly Speaker Inder Singh Namdhari. The protest was over his decision to hear disqualification petitions against three MLAs, ahead of the trust vote to be moved on September 14. While a dozen Communist activists reached near the gate of the Speaker's residence, about 50 leaders and activists of the UPA were stopped by the police about 300 metres away from the gate. "It was a symbolic demonstration against the Speaker because of his disqualification notices sent to three MLAs who are in support of the UPA," RJD's Jharkhand unit president Goutam Sagar Rana told reporters here. The CPI State unit assistant secretary, Khagendra Thakur, said about a dozen Left party activists squatted near the gate. The administration has also made elaborate security arrangements for Monday's demonstration before the Assembly when the Speaker takes up disqualification petitions against Enos Ekka and Kamlesh Singh, who were among the four ministers to quit the Arjun Munda Government. Speaker alleges conspiracy Mr. Namdhari saw a conspiracy for imposition of President's rule in the State. Citing the instances of UPA and Left's agitational programmes following issuance of the notices after disqualification petitions, Mr. Namdhari told newspersons that "these are grounds being laid for President's rule in Jharkhand."
