Naadmohan award presented to Jayashree Patnekar

RECOGNITION: Hindustani vocalist Jayashree Patnekar being honoured with `Naadmohan' award in Belgaum on Sunday.

Belgaum: Noted Hindustani vocalist from Belgaum Jayashree Patnekar was on Sunday conferred the "Naadmohan" award, instituted by the city-based Sangeet Pratisthan.

The award presentation ceremony, which coincided with the platinum jubilee of the pratisthan, was inaugurated by Suresh C. Angadi, MP, and presided over by Karnataka Law Society President S.M. Kulkarni. Regional Commissioner for north Karnataka Amita Prasad and donor of the award Anil Potdar were present.

The award carried a shawl, a memento, a citation and cash prize.

Mr. Angadi called upon the youth to develop interest in music, particularly Indian classical music. He said music was not just for pleasure. It had a tremendous healing power and was highly effective bringing down stress and fatigue besides adding value to the personality of an individual, he said.

It was time the youth realised the evil influence of vulgarised form of music and culture being aired on television and screened in cinemas and looked up to the rich Indian culture and its music, he added.

Mr. Potdar said the award was instituted in memory of his father the late Mohanrao Potdar.

Pratisthan organising secretary Raghavendra Pujar and secretary Shirish Joshi highlighted the services of their organisations in the last six years.

The award giving ceremony was followed by a rendition by Ms. Patnekar.

At a separate function organised under the auspices of "Impu Sugam Sangeet Vedike," senior tabla teacher G.A. Kulkarni (Bandu Master) was honoured with the Hukkeri Balappa award, which carries a cash prize of Rs. 1,000, a shawl and a memento.
