THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) team led by former Water Resources Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan will be visiting the Mullaperiyar dam on Monday for an on-the-sport assessment of the situation there. Before leaving for Mullaperiyar, Mr. Radhakrishnan told mediapersons on Sunday that Tamil Nadu should build a new dam and sign a new agreement with Kerala to solve the problem. He said that the situation at Mullaperiyar was serious and no Government or political party in the State could be a mute witness to what was happening there. The lives of about 30 lakh people were at stake. The Tamil Nadu authorities at Mullaperiyar were acting as if they were a Government on the Kerala soil by refusing entry to Kerala officials to the dam site. This could not be countenanced. He said that the KPCC wanted a political and administrative solution to the Mullaperiyar issue. The team, which would be the first political delegation to visit Mullaperiyar, would be representing the matter to Congress president Sonia Gandhi after its visit.
