Drought conditions will be brought to Prime Minister's notice: Raghuvansh Prasad

ANANTAPUR: Union Minister for Rural Development Raghuvansh Prasad Singh has assured the people of Anantapur to take the severe drought conditions prevailing in the district to the notice of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for release of funds.

Speaking at a public meeting here on Saturday evening, after participating in the plenary session of social audit on NREGS in the district, he said that the new scheme was ensuring a square meal to the labourers.

There were several other problems in the district - like drinking water, he said, adding he would impress upon the Centre to treat Anantapur as a special case and release abundant funds.

TDP criticised

He alleged that large-scale irregularities had taken place in the State in several development schemes during the previous TDP rule. But, the UPA Government was taking the schemes to the poor, he said.

State Minister for Rural Development D. Srinivas appealed to people to improve their living standards by availing the scheme. All steps would be taken to prevent recurrence of irregularities that were noticed during the social audit of NREGS, he said.
