MYSORE: A group of adventure enthusiasts are seeking to revive the fortunes of Dasara Adventure Sports this time. The decision not to organise "Dasara Sahasotsava" follows losses reported by service providers during its last edition, for want of public patronage. To keep up the spirit of adventure among the public, who has been provided with doses of terrestrial, aerial and water adventure sports during the past two years, a group of enthusiasts from the city led by "Outback Adventures" has come forward to introduce a few adventure sports between September 23 and October 1.
Kayaking
The team, which will deploy around 25 experts from Mysore and Bangalore, wants to introduce kayaking for the first time during Dasara festivity, besides wall climbing and bunjee jumping. It is learnt that the organisation has received permission from the Deputy Commissioner, Superintendent of Police and Cauvery Neeravari Nigam. Kayaking will be held during Dasara festivities. It is being introduced in this part of the region for the first time in the canal. Water sports experts have surveyed a few canals in the vicinity, and have zeroed down on Visvesvaraya and Devaraya canals. If water is not sufficient in these canals, kayaking will be taken up in the Cauvery, near Srirangapatna. P.G. Bharath, director of "Outback Adventures", told The Hindu: "We will be getting two-seater inflatable kayaks from the U.S. Mysore will be the second place in the State after Varahi river in Kundapur, Uttara Kannada district, where inflatable kayaks will be used. Kayaking in canals will help the enthusiasts understand the basics of the sport such as paddling." He said that the organisation would provide transportation facility to those interested, from Mysore. Bunjee jumping and wall climbing will be held on Mysore University Pavilion Grounds. Mr. Bharath said that a 25-ft. wall would be erected at the venue and provided with all the accessories needed for climbing. The number of activities had been limited because logistics and manpower were a problem if more activities were organised at different places simultaneously. "We want to see the response this time before introducing new activities next year," he added.
