SHIMOGA: Sri Raghaveshwara Bharathi Swamiji of Sri Ramachandrapur Math, who came into prominence through his "Bharatiya go yatre" last year to protect and promote Indian cow breeds which are on the verge of extinction, has ventured upon another programme to promote the use of cows and their products not only in India but also abroad. He has proposed to hold a nine-ay "Vishwa Go Sammelana" (World Cow Conference) from April 21 to 29 next year for which preparations are under way. An ad hoc committee comprising experts from the dairy industry, worshippers of cows, thinkers, social workers and scientists has been constituted to chalk out the programme for the event. Seminars and discussions on significance of the cow and the utility values of its products through different art forms, recitation of the cow related prayers, go-tulabhara (weighing of cows) and the discourses on cows will be held during the world convention. The event will conclude with "go-rathotsava" on April 29. Devoted worshippers of the cows and selected "Gopalakas"(caretakers of cows) will be felicitated during the programme. Special lectures by experts and interaction between the cow worshippers and the scientists on the steps to be taken to encourage the protection of the cow breeds and the uses of the cow's products such as their dung and the urine which are of medicinal values will form part of the convention. According to Sri Raghaveshwara Bharati, the "Vishwa Go Sammelana" would be preceded by a 108-day "Kamadhenu Maha Yaga." He has proposed to open the Gomootra (cow's urine), Gomaya (cow dung) and cow-related literature centres to popularise their use in a systematic way. "Go-Sansat," a unique programme will be launched on Vijaya Dashami (October 2) in all the taluk centres to create awareness about cows.
