New Gupta HC wins title

DINDIGUL: New Gupta HC defeated Liberation HC 4-2 via tiebreaker to win the title in the Dindigul district hockey meet at the SDAT Stadium here on Sunday. After regulation time, the teams were locked goalless.

In the tiebreaker, Rajkumar, Sivabala, Iyyadurai and Gandhi scored for NGHC while Sathyaraj and Anbilrajan found the net for Liberation HC.

Big win for National

An unbeaten 60 by B. Karthik helped National CC, Dindigul score an emphatic seven-wicket victory over Magnum CC, Batlagundu in the Dindigul DCA second division league held here on Sunday.

The scores: Second division: Magnum CC 102 in 19.2 overs lost to National CC 104 for three in 15.3 overs (B. Karthik 60 not out); Mansur Youngsters CC 113 for nine in 21.4 overs (P. Madhankumar four for 33) lost to Free Bird CC 114 for two in 13 overs (R. Muthukamatchi 55 not out).

Third division: Eleven Star CC 124 in 19.4 overs (Balan three for seven) bt Perfect CC 88 for eight in 20 overs (C. Benher three for 20); Azar CC 81 in 20 overs (M. Ramachandran three for 22) lost to Eriyodu CC 83 for four in 10.1 overs (P. Senthilkumar 48).

Murugan FC wins

Murugan memorial FC, Paraipatti blanked PSNA FC 2-0 in the Dindigul DFA first division league for the Coronation Trophy at the SDAT Stadium here on Sunday. Ayyappan and Muthu scored for the winner.

Anna Cycle Race

Sourashtra wins title

Sourashtra College won the team title with a tally of 53 points in the Madurai Kamaraj University inter-collegiate weightlifting championship at the University gymnasium here on Saturday. MK University College won the team title in the best physique competition with a total of 28 points.

The results: Weightlifting: Up to 56kg: 1. N.A. Manikandan (Sourashtra) S: 90, C&J: 116, Total: 216kg; 2. S.S. Balaji (Sourashtra); 3. T. Vijayarajan (Madura College). 56-62kg: 1. P. Sathishkumar (SN College) 70, 100, 170kg. 2. T. Shanmugarajan (Ambiga College). 62-69kg: 1. T. Venkatesh (SRNMC, Sattur) 80, 92.5, 172.5; 2. R. Vijay Sankar (MSSWB College); 3. J. Raffeez (MKU Evening College). 69-77kg: 1. N. Rajaprabhu (MISC) 75, 97.5, 172.5kg; 2. S. Premkumar (MSSWB College).

SIT FC defeats FC

Sethu Institute of Technology FC defeated Friends Club, Thirumangulam 2-0 in the Madurai DFA `A' Division league for the Hi-Tech Arai Trophy at the Don Bosco HSS ground in Madurai on Sunday. Navamurthy and Sankar scored for the winner.
