KURNOOL: Jagannatha Hill Complex on the outskirts of the city will be developed as tourist junction, according to Collector M. Dana Kishore. The place is centrally located to Srisailam, Mantralayam and Mahanandi shrines. In a meeting with the office-bearers of Jagannatha Hill Development Committee on Saturday, he discussed the development plans and said that in the first phase, it was decided to develop the hill complex with Rs. 70 lakhs. The district administration promised to release Rs. 20 lakhs and would seek Rs. 50 lakhs from the Tourism Department. Collector told the body that a total of 1400 acres was available at the hill. However, 800 acres was free from any kind of liabilities while 600 acres had been given to the poor in the past.
Laying roads
The hill came into limelight after the Rupala Sangameswara temple was reconstructed to protect it from submersion in the Srisailam backwaters. G. Pulla Reddy, who is honorary president of the body, donated an amount of Rs. 10 lakhs for erecting a huge statue of Hanuman. A road had also been laid close to the temple. The Collector asked the officials to operate APSRTC service on to the hill and set up a food court at the foot of the hill. The road would also be completed to allow vehicles on to the hill.
Master plan
The meeting decided to engage the services of urban consultants for preparing a master plan for the entire hill complex.
