Dharmapuri: Security has been stepped up in Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri districts in view of the death anniversary of a naxal leader on September 12. Balan, a People's War Group leader, was killed in an encounter at Seriampatti on September 12, 1980. A senior police official said that in the wake of the anniversary, security had been tightened and additional police pickets posted. A total of 150 border villages in the two districts have been brought under surveillance. A team led by a Sub-Inspector has been deployed at all border check-posts in Dharmapuri district. A total of 25 patrol parties have been formed in Krishnagiri district. All vehicles passing through the check-posts are subject to an intense check. In Krishnagiri, policemen armed with automatic rifles have been deployed at Kuruvinayanapalli, Maharajakadai, Veppanapalli, Hosur, Jujuadi, Kumlapuram, Kakkanur check-posts. Police personnel from the District Anti-Naxal Wing, Q Branch, Tamil Nadu Special Police and Special Task Force are maintaining a tight vigil on all sensitive areas. In addition, two patrol parties from the Special Task Force (STF) are involved in combing operations in the forests of Anchetti, Thally, Natrampalayam, Varamalagunda and Ebri up to a distance of 150 km.
