Woman held for suicide bid

Lucknow: A police personnel's wife along with her four children was detained after she tried to immolate herself in front of the Uttar Pradesh Vidhan Sabha under Hazratganj police station area on Sunday. Pushpa alleged that her husband, posted at Gorakhpur, had been trying to force her into prostitution. She claimed that when she refused, her husband tortured her physically. The woman had also approached the president of State Commission of Women Ranjana Bajpai last week. She further alleged that her husband was `eyeing' their daughters. Earlier, Pushpa had warned of committing suicide before the Vidhan Sabha if stringent action was not taken against her husband. The arrest was made after she tried to immolate herself and her children.

The SSP, Lucknow has ordered investigations into the allegations.

Four naxals killed

Jagdalpur: Four Naxals were shot dead and six arrested during a police raid on a Naxal camp at forest in Ekmetala village in Chhattisgarh's Dantewada district, police said on Sunday. Inspector General of Police (Bastar range) T.J. Langkumer said four guns were seized from the ultras. The police team was in the forest at the moment.

IAS official's death condoled

CHANDIGARH: Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Sunday expressed grief over the death of senior IAS officer S.K. Saxena. Paying floral tributes at a condolence meeting here, the Chief Minister described the late bureaucrat as "efficient". In a separate condolence message, Haryana Governor A.R. Kidwai described him as an "able administrator". The Haryana IAS Officers Association, Build India Group and Kayasth Sabha also mourned his death.

Two arrested with drugs

Jammu: Jammu and Kashmir Border Police arrested two smugglers and seized 5000 drug capsules from their possession from Samba. Border Police sources said it was the biggest ever drug capsule haul which was seized from two persons at Mansar and Biani nakas under Samba police station. Samba police, acting on a tip-off, arrested a smuggler, identified as Ashok Kumar from a State Road Transport Corporation bus at Mansar Naka with 3000 capsules. The bus was on way from Pathankot to Jammu. Another capsule smuggler Vicky Sharma was arrested by Samba police from Biani Naka. He was carrying 2000 capsules, sources added.

Vehicle lifters' gang busted

Bhopal: A vehicle lifters' gang was busted with the arrest of three people in the State capital and recovery of 10 vehicles from various places, police said on Sunday. Superintendent of Police Anant Kumar Singh told reporters here that three people including gang chieftain Shakeel Khan, Shan Mohammed alias Shanu and Syed Khan -- were arrested. The trio were moving around on a motorcycle when police intercepted them. On interrogation, they confessed to lifting more than 10 vehicles from across Bhopal and Sagar. Seized vehicles included nine Hero Hondas and one Boxer bike. Shakeel, who worked as a mechanic, used to sell stolen vehicles in rural areas by changing number plates. The group tried to sell two vehicles in Gotegaon and Raheli Makronia for Rs 5,000 and Rs 8,000 respectively but failed due to in the absence of proper documents.
