Muzaffarnagar (U.P.): At least 15 people were injured on Sunday when police resorted to lathicharge to disperse a group of protesters who were demanding closure of the Alnoor meat processing factory here. The incident occurred when Hindu activists staged a demonstration and performed a ritual in front of the District Magistrate office to press for their demand. Twenty people were arrested in this connection, Deputy Superintendent of Police Devender Choudhry told PTI. He said the trouble began when the protesters attacked a labourer of the factory, Surinder Singh, who had come there for some personal work. Singh was injured seriously and admitted to hospital. Earlier in the day, a rally was organised by different organisations in the town hall here against the meat factory. PTI
