Expert re-elected

Special Correspondent

JAIPUR: Noted family planning and population expert, R.K. Sahni, was on Sunday re-elected president of Jaipur branch of the Family Planning Association of India (FPAI) for a two-year term. Prof. Sahni has been in the forefront of the campaign against female foeticide in the State. Prof. Sahni said he would work on safe motherhood in 15 villages selected in Malpura block of Tonk district during his new term as the FPAI branch president. The region has reported a high mortality rate of pregnant women because of non-availability of medical aid, lack of transport facility to hospitals and deliveries by unskilled attendants.

Prof. Sahni pointed out that a reproductive child health and rights project had been launched in Malpura block.

The professor was honoured for his contribution to the drive against female foeticide in the Independence Day function here this year.
