UDF calls for 12-hour hartal in Kunnathunadu

Kochi: The United Democratic Front (UDF) has called for a 12-hour hartal from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on September 11 in Kunnathunadu constituency, near Aluva, in protest against the alleged custodial death of a 52-year-old person on Saturday.

Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee president Ramesh Chennithala will address a public meeting tomorrow at Pattimattom, near here. UDF convenor P.P. Thankachan, the former Minister T.H. Mustafa and Ernakulam District Congress Committee president K.P. Dhanapalan will address the gathering. The police arrested Saju, of Chengara, near Pattimattom, on the charges of a theft case on September 8.

He collapsed at the Kunnathunadu police station yesterday and died on the way to a local hospital in Kolencherry.

Deputy Inspector General (Ernakulam Range) K. Padmakumar suspended ASI Harihara Kumar, head constables Abraham and Kochaniyan of Kunnathunadu police station in this connection yesterday. — PTI
