Recovery of naxal dumps spurs police into action


  • Anti-naxal squads take up house-to-house searches in sensitive areas
  • Two helicopters deployed for aerial security at Surampalem project site

    Rajahmundry : B. Srinivasulu, Superintendent of Police of East Godavari announced they have taken strict precautionary measures for Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy's programme on Monday.

    Intensive checking

    This was necessitated in view of the recovery of huge dumps of rocket launchers aimed for supply to the Maoists recently and a few statements made by Maoists targeting the Chief Minister.

    Addressing a press conference on Sunday along with OSD V. Satyanarayana , he said this is the first time they were making minute-level security arrangements in anticipation of any untoward incident during the Chief Minister's visit and restricting the movement of vehicles, citizens as well as the press on Monday. He said anti-naxal squads had taken up house-to-house searches in sensitive areas. Intensive checks to detect landmines, claymore mines, remote blasting material and other explosive material in Agency as well as in plain areas were under way , where Dr. Reddy is planned to visit. DIG of Eluru Range C.V. Anand will look after security arrangements, under which SP, two additional SPs, 12 DSPs, 25 CIs, 85 SIs, 120 ASIs/head constables, 800 PCs, 700 home guards, 30 Armed Reserve sections, nine anti-naxal squads, 25 women PCs, 60 women home guards, area domination and combing parties, section and surveillance parties along with other secret security arrangements were made.

    He said they had pressed two helicopters into service for aerial security at the Surampalem project site.
