CITU to take up torture issue at party meeting

Kanwar Yogendra

MANDI (Himachal Pradesh): The national President of CITU, M.K.Pandhe, and Rajya Sabha member Chittabrata Majumdar on Sunday promised to raise the matter of death of three State CITU leaders and the alleged custodial torture of State Secretariat member Kashmir Thakur in the Polit Bureau meeting in Kolkata on Monday.

While addressing a rally of construction workers on the inaugural day of three-day sixth All India Conference of the Construction Workers Federation of India here, the senior party leaders called the repression of workers in the hill State as totally "unfortunate" and "undemocratic".

Calling the State Chief Minister a "ruthless dictator" and comparing him with the Nepal King, the Communist party veterans said his `feudal ego' could lead to the withdrawal of Left support to the Central government. They disclosed that even the Prime Minister, in a recent meeting with the Trade Union leaders, had termed the working class agitations as a necessary part of democratic set up.

The attack on such a senior leader of CITU is an attack on the existence and identity of CPI (M), they said. Such inhuman attacks on Left cadres will not be tolerated, they warned.

They gave a call for Bharat Bandh on December 14 against the repressive policies of UPA government.
