Ex-judges of apex court from State felicitated

MEMORABLE OCCASION: Union Minister of Law & Justice H.R. Bharadwaj (centre) flanked by Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy and Union Minister of State for Mines T. Subbarami Reddy at the function to felicitate five former Supreme Court judges in H yderabad.

HYDERABAD: Five former Supreme Court judges hailing from the State were presented "Nyaya Ratna" awards in recognition of their services by Union Minister of Law and Justice H.R. Bharadwaj in the presence of Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy and Union Minister of State for Mines T. Subbarami Reddy here on Saturday..

Those felicitated were M. Jagannadha Rao, K. Jayachandra Reddy, K. Ramaswamy, S.S.M. Quadri and P. Venkatarami Reddy. Organised by Rasamayi, a city-based cultural organisation, the function also saw the release of the book "Ayyappu Reddy Kandaalu" by former Law Minister and MP E. Ayyapu Reddy. Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy released the book and dedicated it to Mr. Subbarami Reddy.

Dr. Reddy said that all the five former judges had done yeoman service and brought a good name for the State while in office. He, however, added that currently the State lacked proper representation in the Supreme Court. Mr. Bharadwaj said he would do his best to ensure that the State was given due representation.

Mr. Subbarami Reddy said from next year he would see to it that such functions were organised to recognise the good work by former High Court judges too.
