HYDERABAD: Distribution of white ration cards to all eligible persons would be completed by this month, according to Civil Supplies Minister N. Raghuveera Reddy. Plans were afoot to come up with a procurement policy and to supply more commodities through fair price shops. The Government was also in the process of introducing online monitoring of LPG dealers to keep track of supply and distribution, the Minister told reporters here on Sunday. While the distribution of white cards in all municipalities and corporations barring Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam had been completed, officials were in the process of completing the task in rural areas.
Slow progress
Cards were distributed to all eligible persons in Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Krishna and Kadapa districts. But, the progress was slow in other districts due to the Panchayat Raj elections and floods. Mr. Raghuveera Redy said 58.32 lakh white cards including Annapurna cards were distributed in urban areas and 1.20 crore cards in rural areas. The Government was looking into complaints of poor quality rice supplied in fair price shops. Procurement of rice from the State was not sufficient, and so, rice had to be obtained from Punjab and Haryana though the Food Corporation of India. The new procurement policy would be announced in few days.
