Staff Reporter

State will take NMFC's help to provide this facility, says Mohammad Fariddudin

  • Facility is for students who want to pursue professional courses
  • They can avail a maximum of Rs. 50,000 per year

Zaheerabad (Medak): The State Government has decided to seek the assistance of the National Minority Finance Corporation to extend interest-free education loan facility for students belonging to minority communities. The Government would provide security for such loans and students who want to pursue professional courses could avail a maximum of Rs 50,0000 per year as loan for five years. The repayment would begin one year after competition of the course. Students should also provide surety from at least two Government employees.

Speaking to The Hindu the Minister for Minority Welfare Mohammad Fariddudin said that now the State Government could provide only 1200 student loans while the demand stood at 12,000.

    Wakf property

Fariduddin pointed out that the Congress Government has taken education and protection of Wakf properties as the two main target areas for the development of the Muslim minorities. He said that Rs. 33 crores had been allocated for their education and they were being providing scholarships on par with students of backward classes.

He said that the second survey of Wakf properties throughout the State was nearing completion and a detailed programme to protect them would be chalked out after studying the report. The Government had also decided to paste details of Wakf land on the notice boards of MRO offices in each mandal to control land encroachment. To provide fencing to these properties, Rs. 9 crores had been set aside.
