Seeks better facilities in State-run schools and hostels

Sangareddy: The Medak unit of SFI has decided to intensify its ongoing struggle for substantial improvement in the welfare of students.

Addressing the press, district secretary M. Adivaiah said that initially a massive programme to distribute handouts throughout the district would be undertaken, followed by submission of memorandums to people's representatives. He said that thousands of students would lay siege to the Collectorate during the third week of October if their demands were not met by the administration.

Cycle yatra

Explaining the experience of SFI activists during the cycle yatra, Mr. Adivaiah said that 3,179 Government schools and colleges in the district lack even basic amenities and acute drinking water shortage was found in 1,935 schools while 1,525 schools had no electricity. The study also identified water pollution in the social welfare hostels of Patancheru, Isnapur, Chitkul and Digwal of the industrial belt. The students' body has been demanding better facilities for students who depend on the Government school and hostels for their education. SFI district president L. Chandrasekhar and vice-president B. Krishna also spoke.
