Power shutdown

CHENNAI: Power supply will be suspended in parts of Sowcarpet East, Egmore, Vepery, Kilpauk, Periamet, Royapettah, Kottivakkam, Park Town, Seven Wells, Park Town, Kadapperi, Anna Nagar North, Besant Nagar, Mandaveli, Koyambedu, Tidel Park, Triplicane, Thirumudivakkam, Muthialpet, College Road, Thousand Light, Ashok Nagar East, Rangarajapuram, Choolaimedu, Kodambakkam, K.K.Nagar South and East, Saligramam, Chetpet and Velachery between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Tuesday for maintenance.

Entrepreneurship lecture

Students of D.B.Jain College at Thorapakkam learnt about recent trends in entrepreneurship through a lecture by V.Krishnamoorthy, general manager (marketing) of Kilakku Pathipagam on Friday.

The lecture was organised jointly by department of commerce and department of corporate secretaryship.

Campaign on electoral reforms

An awareness campaign on electoral reforms was inaugurated at the Stenographers' Guild, T.Nagar on Friday by T.S.Krishna Murthy, former Chief Election Commissioner.

Speakers urged the government to implement the recommendations of the Election Commission such as debarring corrupt politicians from contesting in elections and declaring their assets.

Jute exhibition

Dharti, an non-governmental organisation working towards the development of jute products and entreprenuers, is organising a jute exhibition from Tuesday to September 18 at C.P.Art Centre, Alwarpet.

Siddha medical camp

About 600 persons were screened at a siddha medical camp organised at Sevalaya Servcie Centre near Thiruninravur.

Doctors from Arignar Anna Siddha hospital, Anna Nagar and Sri Sathya Sai Samiti Medical Service group conducted the camp.

Diploma course in fashion designing

Academy of Fashion and Textile Technology is offering a PG diploma course in fashion designing and also package one year diploma courses in fashion deisgning and clothing technology.

The classes are commencing on September 18.

Oratorical contests

Dr.A.P.J. Abdul Kalam inter-school oratorical contests in English and Tamil were conducted by Velammal International School on Saturday.

Pradeep of St.John's Matriculation School, Baba Nagar bagged the first place in English contest followed by Pradagish of Velammal School, Mogappair and Pramod of Velammal International School, Panchetti.

Varalakshmi of Good Hope Matriculation School got the first prize in Tamil contest.
