Help strengthen Harijan Sevak Sangh: MP

CHENNAI: Member of Parliament and activist Nirmala Deshpande on Sunday appealed to all old students of The Harijan Sevak Sangh to help strengthen the organisation that is fast approaching its 75th year.

Ms. Deshpande also appealed to all MPs and MLAs to help the All India Harijan Sevak Sangh to develop the institution through their constituency development funds.

She said the Sangh, founded by Mahatma Gandhi, was running hostels and providing training in khadi and village industries.

Soon, it will start courses in teacher's training and nursing. Philanthropists could contact the Sangh's state president P. Maruthi for details. (93810 07304)

Ms. Deshpande told media persons that she and her associates would adopt peaceful Gandhian methods to find solutions to the "problems of reserved panchayats" in Tamil Nadu.

She said she would participate in annual conference of Federation of Gandhian Institutions to be held at in November at Tirupati.
