Nearly 1,000 school students take part in the event

CHENNAI: Nearly 1,000 school students, including children from lower primary classes, took part in a drawing competition organised by the Wildlife wing of the State Forest department on Sunday.

Ashish Srivastava, Wildlife Warden, Chennai, said the competition was part of the wildlife week celebrations observed during the first week of October every year. The theme was various forms of wildlife.

The participants included Ebenezer Marcus Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Ambattur, Life Help Centre, East Coast Road, Sathya Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Purasawalkam, Rani Meiyammai High School, Adyar, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan's Rajaji Vidyashram, Kilpauk, MMA Government Higher Secondary School, Pallavaram, Centenary Boy's Higher Secondary School, Perambur, Sita Devi Garodia Hindu Vidyalaya, East Tambaram and Government Model Higher Secondary School, Saidapet. Next Sunday, the department will conduct the District-level elocution and quiz competitions at the audio-visual hall of the Children's Park, Guindy. The finals would be held on October 1 and the prizes would be distributed on the Gandhi Jayanthi day.
